A survey from 2011 found that nearly half of 700 cancer researchers had trouble finding biobank samples of sufficient quality. Around two-thirds of biobanks were founded within the last 10 years, although around 17% have been in operation for over 20 years now. Nearly half of all biobanks store pediatric samples with around 36% also including postmortem specimens. The United States government is the largest funder of 36% of biobanks, providing 57% of responding biobanks with funding in the last 5 years. Thanks to the innovations made by bio laboratory management software, researchers can focus on eradicating disease and coming up with new medical breakthroughs to further change the field.

Biobanks hire the most dedicated professionals to solve some of the most serious problems facing the medical field. Over half of all biobanks list their research on a particular disease as the most important reason for their operation; an additional 29% argued that general research is their most important contribution. Thanks to biobanking and the lab management system, nearly 14.5 million children and adults that faced cancer were alive to tell their stories as of January 2014. With optimal system sample tracking, researchers can locate samples faster than ever. If biobanks continue at the rate they are going at now, then by the end of 2015 more than 1,658,370 new cancer cases will be diagnosed.
